Laboratories
The PPGE infrastructure includes multi-user spaces in its Laboratories and Centers, which support the Program materially and in terms of fostering knowledge production, as well as fostering integration between undergraduate and graduate programs. Below, we detail the laboratories located outside the PPGE building but coordinated or managed by a Program professor. This infrastructure of laboratories and centers significantly contributes to our faculty's research and serves as a space for research groups. All of the laboratories and research centers listed below have internet access, computers, and printers. The infrastructure in the IT area, as well as in specific areas dedicated to studies and research on various topics in education, meets the current and growing needs of faculty and students.
• Science Education Laboratory (LABEC) – Its objectives are to enhance the production of studies and research in the field of Science Education at the UFES Education Center; Strengthen partnerships with the municipal and state education networks of Espírito Santo, also expanding its reach into informal Science Education spaces.
• Visual Arts and Education Center of Espírito Santo (Navees) – Its objectives are to integrate interinstitutional research in the areas of Visual Arts in Education; promote studies in the fields of visual language, its production, and its teaching in basic education; and promote educational initiatives aimed at the continuing education of basic education teachers in the teaching of Visual Arts.
• Hypertext and Educational Technology Study and Research Center (Nepehte) – Its objectives are to promote and technically support studies and research on Hypertext and Educational Technologies, bringing together researchers, new themes, and theoretical-methodological approaches on the topic; and organize and hold scientific meetings (seminars, symposia, conferences) to discuss and evaluate issues related to Hypertext and Information and Communication Technologies applied to Education.
• Espírito Santo Basic Education Management Laboratory (LAGEBES) – This center serves as a space for coordinating and sharing knowledge produced within the scope of activities developed in the field of school management and educational policies, as well as in the study and research activities conducted within the PPGE (Graduate Program in Education).
• Research and Extension Center for Curricula, Daily Life, and Cultures (NUPEC) – This center conducts studies and research aimed at: a) enhancing actions that strengthen the production of studies and research in the field of curriculum at the UFES Education Center; b) strengthening partnerships with municipal and state education networks, as well as, at the federal level, the departments and boards of UFES and the Federal Institutes of Education of Espírito Santo, in curriculum studies and research; c) streamlining and expanding exchange networks between NUPEC/UFES and research groups at the local, regional, national, and international levels, especially those groups registered in the CNPq Research Group Directory in the field of curriculum.
• Center for Teaching, Research, and Extension in Special Education (NEESP) – Created in March 1996, it has a pioneering and unique trajectory within and outside the Education Center, with the overall objective of strengthening the perspective of inclusion in education for individuals with disabilities, global developmental disorders, and high abilities/giftedness through teaching, research, and extension.
• Center for Studies and Research in Literacy, Reading, and Writing of Espírito Santo (NEPALES) – It constitutes a privileged locus for conducting studies and research on written culture and reading, their forms of existence in societies, in different times and places, their production and transmission, within and outside institutions, their relationships with other languages and technologies, and the processes of forming readers and producers of texts capable of integrating themselves into society as citizens.
• Early Childhood Education Center (NEDI) – It is a space for discussion and development of research focused on childhood, articulated by various institutions, governmental and non-governmental bodies and entities committed to the development of children aged 0 to 5 years.
• Center for Afro-Brazilian Studies (NEAB) – Develops research in the area of ethnic-racial relations and, through interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity, contributes to various areas of education so that, together, they can meet the needs of the Afro-descendant population, with the aim of the State adopting affirmative action policies for reparation, recognition, and appreciation of their history.
• Center for Studies and Research in Education and Philosophy (NEPEFIL) – A space for the convergence and conduct of studies and research related to various fields of knowledge, such as science, arts, philosophy, literature, and others related to the educational phenomenon.
• Center for Youth and Adult Education (NEJA) – Brings together researchers who conduct studies and research on youth and adult education. Its objectives are to provide students with the opportunity to experience the training experience as EJA educators through practical experience in the classroom and other teaching settings. Strengthen and consolidate interinstitutional research with researchers and research groups, at the local, regional, national, and international levels, focusing on issues related to EJA.
• Center for Studies and Research in Educational Policies (NEPE) – Created in 2007 with the aim of integrating the research and outreach activities developed by the Education Center, in addition to enabling and expanding the scientific knowledge produced for the benefit of the educational systems of the State of Espírito Santo and Brazil.
• Interdisciplinary Center for Research and Studies in Environmental Education (NIPEEA) – Aims to integrate research conducted at the master's and doctoral levels, as well as teaching, research, and outreach projects; establishing a Reference Center for an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach in Environmental Education.
As mentioned, the PPGE has adequate physical and laboratory facilities for the development of ongoing research, which positively impacts the conditions necessary for completing undergraduate thesis projects.
